Naperville North Marching Band

The Naperville North Marching Huskies are recognized as one of the top high school marching band units in the Midwest. Very popular on the competitive Bands of America circuit, the Marching Huskies travel throughout the area during the fall season, performing an approximately 10-minute show that features the talents of the NNHS musicians, color guard and actors. They have made it into the State of Marching Band Championship Finals every year since 2000, placing second in 2005.

Most wind and percussion instruments are represented in the marching band. The drumline includes snares, tenors, basses, and cymbals. The winds are made up of flutes, clarinets, bass clarinets, alto and tenor saxophones, trumpets, mellophones (French horns), trombones, baritones, and sousaphones (tubas). The “pit” includes stationary percussion instruments such as drum set, timpani, and keyboard percussion, as well as some electronic instruments. Those musicians who play an instrument not traditionally represented in the marching band are encouraged to try a new instrument or consider joining the color guard.

Open by audition to any North student, the Marching Huskies also perform at all home football games and in two parades a year. Marching Band is a fall extracurricular after-school activity, and students earn letters for participation.

Like all other sports and activities in District 203, there are fees and other costs associated with participation in Marching Band. A district fee of $52 is required along with fees for uniform parts, local bus travel, and food. Many trips carry a per-person fee, that may be associated with travel to non-NNHS destinations.

Winter Guard

During the winter season, anyone from marching band has the opportunity to try-out for winter guard. Winter guard is basically the flag corps competing, much the same way that marching band does, in a gym. Their show uses dance, flags, rifles, & sabers. Their competition season typically runs from January through April with a number of competitions plus the circuit championships.
