Friends of MusicNo one knows the importance of music in your child’s life more than you do. You have bought instruments, arranged for lessons, listened to hours of practice, clapped through dozens of recitals and concerts, encouraged your child every bit of the way. And now, with your child in high school, your support is more important than ever. That’s why Friends of Music is here. We are the parent booster group for the music programs at Naperville North High School. Behind the scenes, we are responsible for all support activities for the music program from baking cookies for post-concert receptions to painting props for the marching band show to chaperoning overnight trips. We try to facilitate the communication between the music programs, the students, the parents, and the school, school district, and community. Most importantly, we encourage our students and community to embrace music as a vital experience, crucial to our development as people. The Friends of Music board is a representative group of about 15 parents, along with the four directors from the NNHS music department. All of our music groups have at least one parent volunteer on the board to make sure Friends of Music is responsive to the entire music program. The board usually meets once a month and all music parents are invited to attend. The board meetings are listed on the website and in the Friends of Music newsletter. Because turnover on the board can be very high, all parents are encouraged to get involved. We welcome your input and suggestions. A booster program is only as effective as its members, so we want parents to take an active role in maintaining and determining the course of the music program. Parents are not required to volunteer and there are no dues. But if your child is in the music program, you are a de facto member of Friends of Music. We hope you will continue to play an active role in your child’s music experience. Please come to a board meeting. Volunteer. Introduce yourself, share your concerns, energy, and ideas. The music program at North could not be the vibrant, active and award-winning department it is today with your help and support. Thank you, |
