Orchestra NewsA New YearAs the academic year draws to a close, so too does a magnificent season of music. It is during this time that we begin to reflect on the many lessons we learned, the music we made, and the new friendships we formed together. It is with this material in hand that we look toward to the future. By the time this publication is distributed, all students new and returning should know their placement for the coming year. We will again see three orchestras at North: Concert Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and Symphonic Orchestra. Extracurricular string ensembles will again be available to all students at Naperville North. The Bluegrass Strings and The Renaissance Music Project seasons will take place in the fall followed by the Bella Corda season which will begin after Winter Break. For specific information regarding these ensembles please do not hesitate to contact me with whatever questions you may have. A special note for incoming students: this is the beginning of a new and exciting period of music making at the high school level. Young musicians arriving at North for the first time have a unique set of challenges to explore. These challenges not only enhance a student’s education in the creation of music, they become life lessons that pay dividends into disciplines within the arts and without. To all students: I am very much looking forward to our coming year of new music. It is my great pleasure and honor to guide you through the beginning of your professional careers as musicians. Through the course of your education at North, you will compose, perform in chamber groups, learn high school rehearsal etiquette and build on your skills as an independent learner. I wish you a wonderful summer and I cannot wait to see you all in the fall.
