Naperville North High School Music ProgramThe Music Department is offers students opportunities to participate in both instrumental and vocal groups both within the school day and outside of school hours. Many of these groups are by audition only. Additional opportunities include Jazz and small chamber ensembles (i.e. quartets, quintets, and vocal ensembles). Curricular Bands, Orchestras, and Choirs
There is no audition for Concert Band, Concert Orchestra, Bass Choir, and Cecilian Singers. There is an audition for Wind Symphony, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Orchestra, Chorale, Concert and Treble Choir. Please contact the music staff for more information. Curricular Music ClassesMusic Appreciation From Bach to Rock, music plays a vital role in enriching the lives of those who experience it. Music Appreciation approaches music in the same way students do every day… by listening; no prior musical knowledge is required. In Music Appreciation, students will have the opportunity to explore the multiple styles and genres born of the Western European musical tradition, and to examine the historical, cultural and artistic context of each. Students will gain exposure to wide variety of musical styles, and will develop listening skills that will inform their future musical experiences. Music Theory This class is a more advanced non-performing music course, designed for students who already possess some knowledge of basic musical concepts, and are interested n learning the structure and composition of music.
